A competition issued by Altarea srl and Porto Antico in Genoa is won by the Dutch firm UN Studio, led by Ben van Berkel. The project is designed as an enveloped piazza located on the waterfront, combining a variety of programs including a cruise terminal, wellness suites, cultural and leisure programme, all of which bring a new liveliness to the old harbour. With its low-slung, undulating outline the piazza aims to also provide a park with sport fields, other public facilities while emphasizing the view of Genoa and its Alpine setting. Following on from the competition the client had requested a team of technical advisors, we were appointed to analyse the schematic design and determine the financial viability of the project prior to issuing a public project finance call for the funding.
