Intesa San Paolo, one of the main banking groups in Italy, asked us to consult and manage a team of professional to create a conceptual document, inviting six major architectural firms to design their new headquarters in Turin. The resulting brief set the challenge of designing a 150-metre-high skyscraper with heavyweight ecological credentials. The project was to be contested by Hiroshi Hara, Estudio Lamela, Daniel Libeskind, MVRDV, Dominique Perrault and Renzo Piano Building Workshop. After much deliberation the award went to Renzo Piano’s Building Workshop and the proposal was put into practice. Once constructed, The Green Building Council awarded, in October 2015, the LEED Platinum certification. The Bank’s new Turin headquarters is currently the only high-rise building in Europe to have attained this distinction, thus becoming a member of a very select group, world’s top ten for 'LEED - New Construction' category.
