centocelle residencies - Rome

This residential project needed to be designed with the involvement and consultation of the local community. The location is a suburb within the city of Rome, Italy. The council issued an open completion, the design brief being won by ourselves. The ambition of the design was to connect the existing buildings and infrastructure with the new ones, not only by creating a physical link, but manufacturing a a “social” interconnection also. The ecological footprint being of prime concern, the buildings are designed for either young couples or older people, the aim being to create a social interaction between different generations by living in proximity. The building carries many green features, such as solar and photovoltaic panels, wind chimneys and shading features for the façades exposed south-west elevation.
